Current Challenges
Students face significant barriers
- No access to schools within a reasonable distance.
- Poor infrastructure in their communities, with no healthcare, markets, or roads.
- Families struggling to meet basic needs, let alone afford education.
- Lack of awareness about the importance of education, health, and sanitation.
Cycle of Poverty
The present challenges perpetuate a cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and poor living standards. Without intervention, these children will remain marginalized and unable to break free from this cycle.
Little Government Support
The Nepal government has essentially made few efforts to change / improve conditions in the area. Although the caste system is illegal, it continues to prevail and the government has not taken any actions to reduce it. With the exception of a government run school, there is little presence of government supported programs in the area.
Few Opportunities to Break the Cycle of Poverty
The pattern of life has prevailed in the area for three to four generations. Although improvements are being made through the efforts of groups like Ten Friends, change has been slow.
