A Potential Project of Ten Friends

Elevate Nepal Preliminary Review Draft
Tilahi is an area in southeastern Nepal that is impoverished and occupied by individuals who part of the Musahar caste. Members of the caste are also known as the "untouchables" and are highly discriminated against.
Ten Friends has been working in the area since 2019 to improve the lives of the Musahar providing child education, adult vocational training and sanitary and drinking water improvements. While conditions are improving, there is a lot more that can be done.
Our dream is to build a new village in the community that will enable residents to break the cycle of poverty. The dream begins with providing NGO owned land for agricultural production. It transcends over time to add sanitary improvements and drinking water, to provide housing, to provide a community center that houses a place to work, a place for after school education, a place to obtain health care supplies and to conduct medical and dental clinics, a place for a lending library and other essential amenities. The dream also includes future opportunities for children to obtain advanced education in other areas of Nepal with the hope that once educated they will return to the village to help others.
Ten Friends has developed project plans for achieving our dream. It all begins with a Feasibility Analysis which seeks to confirm that the project is viable. It envisions a phased project implementation plan that begins with the purchase of land followed by placing the land into agricultural production. From there it is on to creating a new community. We have established a strong project team to guide and develop the project. This website lays out our current plans and will be updated to reflect where we are in the process, what we have achieved and future actions needed to implement the dream.
As with any such project, one of the keys will be to raise adequate funds to support the project and to sustain it throughout the years. Primary reliance will be on partner organizations, foundations and others who share a vision to enact the dream and to help those in need. We encourage you to participate with us in achieving the Telahi Village Project.
We look forward to sharing with you how this project has impacted the lives of individuals living in Tilahi. We are hopeful that the impacts will have been transformative and have ended the cycle of poverty. If so, potentially this project or one similar to it can be replicated in other impoverished communities.
